System sizing for worst case
Off-grid means designing for the worst week of the year (cloudy and cold) not the annual average. Battery capacity, panel array, and generator runtime all factor in.
Battery chemistry
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) is now standard for off-grid — long cycle life, deep discharge, and cold-tolerant. We size battery capacity for 2-3 days of autonomy plus generator backup for longer stretches.
Propane and generator integration
For sites with propane, a small standby generator covers the deep-cloudy gaps without oversizing the solar array beyond economic.
