Do I Need a Permit for an EV Charger Installation in Utah?

Whether home EV charger installs require a permit in Utah cities, who pulls it, and what happens during inspection.

Do I need a permit for an EV charger in Utah?

Yes — every Utah AHJ we work with (Ogden, Layton, Clearfield, Weber County, Davis County, Roy, Syracuse, and others) requires an electrical permit for a Level 2 EV charger install. A licensed electrical contractor pulls the permit under their license — homeowners cannot legally pull permits for work that will be sold, used on rental property, or financed. The inspection covers conductor sizing, breaker, GFCI protection, grounding, and the working clearance at the panel.
