Can I Add a Battery to My Existing Solar System?

Adding battery storage to an existing PV system in Utah — AC-coupled vs DC-coupled, compatibility, and permitting.

Can I add a battery to my existing solar?

Usually yes. AC-coupled batteries (Tesla Powerwall, FranklinWH aGate) work with most existing solar inverters and are the easiest retrofit. DC-coupled options exist but require inverter compatibility. The install requires a new electrical permit, possibly a panel upgrade or critical-loads subpanel for backup, and updated interconnection paperwork with Rocky Mountain Power. We handle the design and the paperwork.
