Cat6 vs Cat6A — Which Cable Should You Run?

When Cat6 is enough, when to upgrade to Cat6A, and what each cable type actually supports in a real-world install.

Cat6 or Cat6A?

Cat6 supports 1 Gbps at full 100-meter runs and 10 Gbps at shorter distances (around 55 m), and is the right default for residential and most small-commercial work. Cat6A supports 10 Gbps at full 100 m but is thicker, more expensive, and has stricter bend-radius and conduit-fill rules. For backbones, server rooms, or future-proofing critical drops, Cat6A is worth it. For 95% of home drops, Cat6 is correct.
