Do I Need a Generator If I Have Solar?

Why solar alone does not provide backup power, and when a generator, battery, or both make sense in Utah.

Do I need a generator if I have solar?

Solar alone does not provide backup power during a grid outage — grid-tied inverters shut down for safety. Three options: add battery storage (silent, supports essentials or whole-home depending on size), install a gas-fired standby generator (longer runtime, requires fuel), or both. For most Utah homes that want occasional outage coverage, a battery is the cleanest answer. For medical or critical-load homes, both is reasonable.
