Can a 100-Amp Panel Handle an EV Charger?

When a 100-amp service can support a Level 2 charger, when it cannot, and how a load calculation answers the question.

Can my 100-amp panel handle an EV charger?

Maybe — and only after a real load calculation. NEC 220.83 looks at your existing connected loads (HVAC, range, dryer, water heater, plus a percentage of other circuits) and tells you how much capacity is actually left. Some 100-amp homes have plenty of room for a 30-amp charger. Others trip the main when the A/C and dryer run together, never mind charging an EV. We do the calc before quoting — if a panel upgrade is needed, we tell you up front.
