Is My Federal Pacific Panel Safe?

Federal Pacific Stab-Lok panels were recalled for failure to trip on fault — here is what that means for your home in Utah.

Is a Federal Pacific Stab-Lok panel safe?

The short answer is no. Federal Pacific Electric Stab-Lok breakers have a documented failure rate trip on overcurrent, leading to overheated conductors and house fires. Many insurance carriers will not insure or will surcharge homes with FPE panels. The fix is replacement, not repair — there are no listed retrofit kits we recommend. Zinsco panels have similar issues. If you have either, we strongly suggest replacing it during your next service work.
